Privacy Policy — Wyoming Legal Resource Directory App

Last updated: 2026-08-27

This policy covers the Wyoming Legal Resource Directory Android app ("the app"). It is separate from, but consistent with, the privacy policy for the wyo.legal website. The app does not require an account, does not have a login, and was built to work fully offline once installed.

What the app does not do

The app does not require you to create an account or sign in. It does not collect your name, email address, phone number, or any other personally identifying information. It does not access your contacts, photos, camera, microphone, or precise GPS location. It does not contain any advertising or ad-tracking software development kits (SDKs), and it does not sell or share any data, because it does not collect any personal data to sell or share.

Data the app stores on your device

The app bundles a copy of the Wyoming Legal Resource Directory dataset (organizations, contact details, court forms, and county information) and stores it in a local database on your device using Android's Room storage framework, so the app works offline. This local copy never leaves your device and is not transmitted to us or anyone else. Uninstalling the app deletes this local data.

Background data refresh

To keep the resource directory current, the app periodically connects to https://wyo.legal/data/resources.json and https://wyo.legal/data/forms.json to check for and download updates to the directory content. These requests retrieve public directory data only — they do not send any personal information, device identifiers, or location data along with the request beyond the standard technical information any web request includes (such as IP address and general request metadata), which is generated by your device's network connection and our hosting provider's server logs, not collected or stored by us as part of the app's own data.

If your device is offline, the app displays the most recently downloaded copy of the directory rather than an error. Offline use is a fully supported, normal way to use this app.

Native device features you choose to use

Certain listings in the app include phone numbers, addresses, and website links. If you tap one of these, the app hands off to another app already on your device to complete the action:

  • Tapping a phone number opens your device's default phone dialer (Android's ACTION_DIAL intent) with the number pre-filled. The app does not place the call for you and does not record or log that you tapped it.
  • Tapping an address opens your device's default maps application using a standard geo: intent. The app does not access or store your location to do this — it simply hands the destination address to whatever maps app you have installed.
  • Tapping a website link opens the link in your device's browser (or an in-app browser tab). We have no control over, and this policy does not cover, the privacy practices of those third-party websites once you leave the app.

Because these actions are completed by your phone's dialer, maps, or browser app — not by the Wyoming Legal Resource Directory app itself — any data associated with the call, the maps lookup, or the website visit is subject to that other app's own privacy policy, not this one.

Permissions the app requests

The app requests Android's standard internet access permission, which is required to check for directory updates. It does not request permission to access your contacts, camera, microphone, photos, precise location, or any other sensitive device data.

Children's privacy

The app does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Because the app does not collect personal information from any user, this applies equally to users of all ages.

Data retention and deletion

Since the app does not collect personal information, there is no personal data for us to retain or delete. The only data stored is the local, on-device copy of public directory content described above, which you can remove at any time by clearing the app's storage or uninstalling the app.

Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated periodically as the app changes. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the app after an update is posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
